We shared a moment that will last ‘til the end
I was in the supermarket this afternoon, promising myself I’d only buy bananas, when out of the corner of my eye I saw the most flawless bunch of kale I’d seen in months. I immediately knew that this boring grocery store trip had gone from boring to absolutely life changing.
At that moment, the atrocious song “You’re Beautiful” popped into my head.
“You’re beautiful,” I sang-talked to the kale. The kale didn’t speak back. Sometimes kale is shy.
And as I turned over the bunch in my hand, inspecting it for holes (there were none), and gently eased it into a long white plastic bag, I felt tenderness towards it. Even more than that, I felt love being all around me.
“You’re beautiful,” I whispered to the leafy green. “You’re beautiful, it’s true.”
Today is the most fulfilling Valentine’s Day I’ve had in 10 years.
